About GovScorecard
GovScorecard was started by a small team of policy nerds, software engineers and data scientists who believe you can't hold elected officials to account if you can't see what they do. The record is public, but it's scattered across statehouses, Congress and city halls, each keeping it a little differently.
We gather that record and lay it out the same way for everyone, so you can see what a legislator has sponsored and how much of it became law. Our aim is the most complete nonpartisan record of elected legislators at every level of government, written so you don't need a law degree to follow it. We've begun with the fifty state legislatures and Congress, and we're now adding the hundred largest cities and counties in the country. With more than 90,000 local governments, we'll be at it for some time.
We don't take sides or tilt the numbers, and what to make of them is up to you.
Legislators can ask to claim their profiles, and we're building a research tool for their offices and for advocacy groups.
